This year a group of 8 PPG staff teamed up with RSA Mobility to tackle the English 3000. Along with 16 other team members from a range of businesses within the industry
The 24 strong team set a target of raising £10,000 for Mobility, a national charity helping disabled people in the UK achieve personal freedom and independence through the provision of vehicles, powered wheelchairs and scooters. Each year, they have to raise £2.5 million to help around 4,000 of the most vulnerable customers of the Motability Scheme to become mobile.
The challenge took place across two days at the end of June, with both days together equating to 24 hours of walking.
Day 1 –The team opened the challenge by taking on the long ascent up Helvellyn, reaching the summit at around 9am. They then walked the valley to the base of Skiddaw and ascended to the summit to complete a 38km gruelling hike.
Day 2 – Starting from Seathwaite in Borrowdale the group climbed and scrambled a 17km hike completing Broad Crag, Ill Crag, Symmond Knott and Scafell Pike, before returning back to Seathwaite for a long awaited rest.
If the challenge wasn’t hard enough the team were tested by the weather, injury and a river crossing on day one when a washed away bridge stopped them in their tracks.
PPG would like to thank everyone in the team for their hard work over the 2 days and especially to RSA Mobility for organising such a brilliant and challenging event.
