Porsche Carrera Cup championship leader Dan Cammish ended a difficult weekend with a strong result of second to hold an overall three point lead over rival Dino Zampenelli.
The Leeds-based driver went into the races aiming for ‘damage limitation’ after a gearbox issue in qualifying meant he was unable to set a quick lap time.
Race 1
Dan started the first race from sixth in the Nationwide Crash Repair/PPG sponsored car. The tight confines of Croft made overtaking a premium, but Dan was able to move up to fifth before ending the sprint seventh. “That first race was so difficult, there were incidents everywhere and we just lacked the pace we needed.”
Race 2
For race two Dan again started out of position in fifth for the final race of the weekend, but he was able to end on a high note, rising from the midfield. He stormed the rolling start to move himself up to fourth on the end of the first lap and quickly set about chasing down Tom Sharp, following him through into third after the second placed car spun. Better was to come when Dan made a move stick on the entry to Sunny In to move ahead for second. There were only a few laps remaining to chase the car in the lead, and Dan drove superbly to narrow the gap to less than a second in worsening conditions as the race ended. “It was a good way to end the weekend,” said Dan. “I could be even happier if we’d got the results we know we can. We did well to get the positions we did in qualifying considering out problems.
Thankfully, the second race went more my way so that was a good way to end.”
After a weekend that started with a disrupted practice sessions and a mechanical fault in qualifying, Dan’s superb recovery means he heads to Snetterton top of the standings and still in control of the championship. “The main thing is that although the weekend was difficult, but not a disaster, we hold the championship lead. We know there’s more to come in the rounds ahead.”
