PPG sponsors, Williams F1, reclaim fourth in The Championship after Italian Grand Prix success

The Italian Grand Prix is a momentous occasion for any motorsports lover and this weekend we were fortunate enough to watch Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa take to the Italian race track, finishing sixth and ninth overall in the Italian Grand Prix with Nico Rosberg scooping victory, narrowly ahead of his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton. Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa’s successes led to the Williams team regaining 4th in the Constructors’ Championship, three points ahead of Force India.

Valterri Bottas had a positive start to the race, battling with Lewis Hamilton during the first few laps of the track. However, opting for a two-stop strategy was a flaw within Valterri Bottas’ plan and, unfortunately, resulted in an overtaking by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. Felipe Massa also had a strong start, moving from 11th to 8th in the opening lap. A problem tyre caused an unexpected problem for Felippe Massa and resulted in a two-stop strategy, however, he performed consistently well and was able to finish within the points. Overall, Valterri Bottas remains 7th in the Drivers’ Championship with 70 points and Felipe Massa is 10th with 41 points.

On the whole, the Williams team were happy with their complete performance with Rob Smedley, Head of Performance Engineering, stating, “I think that was pretty much the most we could achieve today. We stopped a little bit early with Valtteri but the strategy played out well. With Felipe, we went into the race planning a one-stop, but stopped earlier to cover Hulkenberg and then tried to keep Felipe out as long as possible to try and chase Perez at the end. Overall, in terms of strategy, pit stops, and how we operated as a team we managed the race well and it is satisfying to reclaim fourth in the championship”.
