The Williams F1 Team head to the Italian Grand Prix with high hopes

The Williams F1 Team head to Italy this week for round 12 of the F.I.A Formula One World Championship. Currently sitting 16th and 17th in the championship; the team are determined to bring some points home at the fast paced Autodromo Nazionale.

So far the 2013 Championship has been a tough one for The Williams F1 Team. Pastor Maldonado and team mate Valtteri Bottas have struggled to bring results in this season suffering from a car that lacks down force and at times has been difficult to drive.

Maldonado has complained that his style of driving is unsuited to the FW35’s handling characteristics; whilst its pace has been good, the team have struggled to be competitive.

Given the difficulties faced by the team so far this season, changes have been made to the Williams FW35 at the Grove based Head Quarters following the introduction of the team’s new technical director Pat Symonds.

Following the changes the teams luck has been on the up since when in Hungary Maldonado was finally handed a crucial first point of the season following his tenth place finish. The hope now is the team will consistently win points in the remaining 8 races.

The next race at The Autodromo Nazionale Monza will challenge the set up due to the circuits extreme characteristics. It features the highest top and average speed of all circuits in the Grand Prix, the team are likely to reach speeds of up to 340kph. This will have a significant pit and fuel effect, which typically pushes the race towards a one-stop strategy.

The team remain confident and are aiming to leave the Europe with some more points on the board following the recent success at Hungary.
