Highs and lows for Triple Eight at Snetterton

Triple Eight drivers Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff both experienced the highs and lows of motor racing in the sixth meeting of the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton last weekend.

Having secured BTCC pole position on Saturday at qualifying, Tordoff gained his first victory of his BTCC career in Sunday’s first race.

Jason Plato followed Tordoff to the finish line in a spectacular second one-two finish of the season.

Whilst the first race was a relatively incident free race, the final two races of the sixth round proved to be dramatic from start to finish.

In race two Plato ground to a half with a fuel pump problem and was forced to retire while Tordoff suffered with braking problems and dropped down the order.

In the final race of the day, whilst fighting his way through the order on the opening of race three, Plato spun wildly on the run down to Hamilton before making heavy contact with the barrier; leading to a dramatic barrier roll. Plato walked away unharmed although the championship position for the team has been significantly hampered.

Better results were for Tordff as he powered from 18th on the grid through to fifth place brining points back in sight.

While a number of the dramas were out of the team’s control Triple Eight Team principal Ian Harrison said that he was disappointed with the weekend’s outcome.

Jason Plato currently sits in 5th position in the championship with 206, just in front of Sam Tordoff with 182 points.

The next rounds of the championship take place at Knockhill in Fife, Scotland, on August 25th where the team are confident of improved results.
