Dan Cammish begins the season with a double Brands Hatch pole position!

Double Porsche Carrera Cup champion Daniel Cammish started the 2017 season from the front of the grid after setting the two fastest times in qualifying at Brands Hatch.

The times around the 1.2 mile Kent-based track were incredibly close for the opening two rounds of the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup season. Dan claimed pole position for race one by 0.048 of a second from team mate Charlie Eastwood. His second fastest time was only 0.023 of a second slower but was good enough to achieve the objective of pole position for the second race. Incredibly only half a second covered the top ten lap times in one of the closest qualifying sessions in recent memory.

“It’s crazy close,” said Dan. “Less than a tenth puts you between first and fifth. If you don’t extract every last little bit then you’re not there. It’s hard, there is a lot of pressure around here. At other circuits it’s still close but with longer tracks and more corners there is time to be gained and lost. You’ll start to see gaps appearing but here a couple of hundreds can move you a row or two.”

“It’s a really good result. As a team we were here on Tuesday testing and we had a good day but it wasn’t perfect. A lot of the other guys were here on Monday and Tuesday so everyone has done a lot of laps. We were close yesterday but we weren’t quite there. I knew today that things could change around. I remember last year that we weren’t quite there on a Friday but on a Saturday we delivered and we have again. We had a good car and I had a number of laps that were good enough to put me on the front row so I’m really pleased.”

The Nationwide Crash Repair/PPG-backed driver has a strong track record around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, having secured a double pole position in 2016 and won three of the last four races at the track. Dan will be hoping for more of the same around the narrow circuit for the first two races of 2017.

“It’s hard to overtake here so I’m definitely starting in the right place. Charlie [Eastwood] is starting behind me and he’s going to be really pushing to try and get those wins. He’s also my team mate and I don’t think he’ll want to see us both end up in a heap. It should be a good clean race. It will be fast at the front, it always is, and we’ll just do the best job we can.”
